What kind of private data can photos leak?
JPEG photos from phones commonly embed GPS coordinates (a precise map location of where the picture was taken), device manufacturer and model, serial numbers, capture date and time, editing software names, and orientation/thumbnail data. Social networks usually strip some of this, but files shared directly by email, messaging apps, or cloud links often carry all of it.
How does the removal actually work?
Your image is decoded to raw pixels in browser memory and re-encoded into a fresh file. Metadata lives in file containers and headers, not in pixels, so a clean re-encode produces an image with no EXIF, XMP, IPTC, or comment blocks whatsoever. The visible picture quality is preserved.
Will removing metadata change how my photo looks?
No. Pixels are re-encoded at your chosen quality level, so the image looks visually identical. Only the invisible metadata layer is removed. Note that rotation stored as an EXIF flag is applied permanently during cleaning so your photo keeps the correct orientation everywhere.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere during the scan?
Never. The metadata parser and the re-encoder both run 100% inside your browser tab. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tool will still work.
